Open Country is a Harrogate based organisation that seeks to enable anyone with any disability to access the countryside. We achieve this through a variety of countryside activities, and the provision of information and advice. Fully accessible transport is provided and teams of trained volunteers are on hand to offer assistance as necessary. CONSERVATION VOLUNTEERS & TRAILBLAZERS We work from 10 a.m. until around 5 p.m. on Tuesdays (Trailblazers) and Fridays (Conservation). Both groups meet at Community House, and we drop people home afterwards. The jobs may be dirty, but are suitable for most capabilities. Tools, training and transport are provided. THE WALKING GROUPS The walking group runs all the year round, with walks ranging from 2 to 15 miles. The group is friendly, enthusiastic, and some members have learning disabilities, mental health problems. The walks are generally held on the first Sunday of the month with two residential walking weekends each year. COUNTRYSIDE OUTINGS Open to anyone with a physical disability or sensory impairment, there are two outings each month to a wide range of wheelchair accessible locations. These include nature reserves, National Parks and country houses. The fully accessible minibus picks up participants from home and drops them of afterwards. You can come on your own or with a friend. If you require any assistance, volunteers will be there to help. The interest in our outings means we can only accept bookings for one trip at a time - so everyone can participate. ADVENTURE CLUB All active Open Country members are welcome. We meet at Community House at 10.00 a.m. but can pick up by arrangement. WILD THINGS Join Wild Things and have fun exploring the natural world. TANDEM CYCLING Our tandem season begins again on Tuesday 1st April 2008 (no this is not an April Fool!!) COMPANION CYCLING We enjoy traffic free routes using a variety of adapted bikes. Our off-road group meets at Community House at 6 p.m. for monthly evening rides. Bring a picnic tea if you like. We may stop at a pub at journey's end. Breakfree is a scheme to encourage access for all To find current news and events click on the menu link. TO BOOK A PLACE...
